Russia sees no reason to doubt Nord Stream-2 deals with Germany

MOSCOW, Dec 30 (PRIME) -- There is no reason to doubt Berlin’s compliance with the agreements on the Nord Stream-2 pipeline, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Thursday.

“At this stage, we have no reason to doubt … Berlin in case,” Zakharova said.

According to Zakharova, Russia has previously said that Moscow will rely on German law in case there is no unanimity on the issue within the German government.

The Nord Stream-2 project is exclusively a commercial project with no political dimension to it, Zakharova reiterated.

German Economy Minister and Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck said that certification of Nord Stream-2 goes in full accordance with the law, while possible sanctions against Russia would be a political decision.

“Nord Stream-2 has been completed and even filled with gas. A permit is pending, even two of those, from the Federal Network Agency, which is supervised by the ministry, and the European agency. And this permission is being considered in accordance with the law,” Habeck said.

Habeck said that adoption of possible new sanctions against Russia would be a “political decision,” adding that “politics should be concentrated in the political field.”

The minister said that he endorses diplomacy and bilateral and multilateral dialogue as a means of handling the Ukrainian crisis.
